વર્ષો અગાઉ સ્ફુરેલા નાટકની કથાવસ્તુને નવલકથા સ્વરૂપે લખવાનો મારા માટે આ પ્રથમ જ પ્રયાસ છે. ફિલ્મ, નાટક કે નવલકથામાં વાર્તા એક જ હોય તોપણ માધ્યમ પ્રમાણે તેની અલગ અલગ માવજત થતી હોય છે. તખ્તા માટે લખાતી કૃતિને મર્યાદાના જકડી રાખવી પડે છે, તેના વિસ્તાર પર પણ અંકુશ રાખવો પડે છે એટલે નાત્યસ્વરૂપને ધ્યાનમાં રાખેલી 'ભાગ્ય-સૌભાગ્ય' ની આ કથા નવલકથા તરીક વાચકોને બહુ ઝડપી અને થોડી ટુકી લાગશે. બીજું એ લખવાનું કે ફિલ્મ અથવા નાટકમાં પત્રોના મનની વાત છતી કરવાની જરૂર હોતી નથી, જયારે નવલકથામાં પત્રની માનસ્લીલા પણ વ્યક્ત થતી હોવાથી અમુક રહસ્ય લાંબા વખત સુધી વાચકોથી ગુપ્ત રાખવાનું અવાસ્તવિક બની જવાની દહેશત રહે છે. 'ભાગ્ય-સૌભાગ્ય' એવા જ એક રહસ્ય આસપાસ રચાયેલી છે.
